First Year Nursing Study Groups

Join a study group to meet your fellow nursing peers and enhance your academic success

First-Year Peer Led Study Groups

New to the Trent/Fleming School of Nursing is an academic and social enhancement opportunity for first-year nursing students.  Students will have the opportunity to join peer led study groups with fellow nursing peers to enhance their learning and make friends within the program.  Study groups are currently run virtually over zoom due to social gathering guidelines. However, once in-person classes resume and social distancing restrictions relax, study groups can be in-person, virtual or even a combination of.  It will be up to the group to decide what works best for them.

This is a fun opportunity that is student led to reduce stress. We encourage students to participate to enhance your academic success while having fun!

About the Study Groups

  • Upper-year Nursing student mentors will lead initial meetings to facilitate peer connection and comfort within the group using ice breakers and other activities.
  • Upper-year Nursing student mentors will provide guidance and instruction on how students can get the most out of their peer led study groups.  This will include important information like structure, goals, how to best manage time to get the most out of a study session and other tips and tricks to make help students make their study group a success.

Study Group Sign-Up

  1. Sign-up will be available on the TFSON Intranet site on Blackboard closer to the start of the Fall term.
    • Information will be available in the "Academic Help" content areas within the "Study Groups" folder.
  2. Opportunity to sign-up with peers affiliated with the same college, off-campus or at the PN to BScN site will be available.  Alternatively, register with a whole new group of peers without a particular affiliation.

Students are reminded that while study groups are a great opportunity to enhance learning and build a supportive community within the School of Nursing, academic integrity must be maintained.  Sharing answers for course content meant to be completed individually (i.e., quizzes, exams, papers, etc..) is prohibited.  Refer to Trent's Academic Integrity Policy for guidance
