What is required to be successful in The Hub?
Clinical course requirements completed with The Hub, including labs and simulations are mandatory. Failure to attend sessions in The Hub or clinical practice may result in a failing grade as per the TFSON's policy found in the Student Handbook and Academic Calendar:
"Attendance at learning centre sessions, orientation to clinical practice, and clinical practice is mandatory. Failure to attend learning centre sessions or clinical practice may result in a failing grade. Failure to attend orientation will result in the student being removed from the clinical practice course, and any related classroom co-requisites, for that term. A student may be required to attend orientation for clinical practice in the week before the actual start date of the term." Trent University Undergraduate Academic Calendar 2020-2021. 306.
The 4 P's of the TFSON: Trent Simulation Hub
Prompt: Show up on time. Chronic lateness is unprofessional and disrespectful to others who arrive on time. Lateness disrupts valuable lab time.
Prepared: Do the required prep-work and be prepared to answer questions in lab. Show completed quizzes to your instructor. Come with appropriate the knowledge base to participate fully in lab.
Participate: Ask questions, role play, engage with your partner. Demonstrate your knowledge and skills to your lab instructor. Share your insight and experience with the class when appropriate.
Professional: Adhere to the dress code. Keep off your cell phone. Listen when someone is talking. Use professional language and show respect to your fellow classmates. Respect the lab space.
Rules of Engagement
- What happens in The Hub is confidential within the circle of care for experiential learning.
- Each learner will behave according to the TFSON Professional Code of Conduct (including respecting the University’s anti-bullying policy and harassment policy).
- Offensive and/or inappropriate language are not permitted at any time in The Hub.
- Respect and encourage your peers’ participation before, during and after all Hub experiences.
- Each student will have prepared ahead of time for all Hub experiences, including an appropriate review of skills to be performed in the experience.
- One person speaks at a time without interruptions and there should be no side conversations.
- Speak only for yourself and what you did or observed. When doing so please use “I” statements.
- Be respectful at all times of you, your peers, the facilitator, volunteers, faculty, etc. Please ensure you are respectful of different backgrounds and learning styles as well.
- Each learner will have an equal voice and equal time during Hub experiences.
- Be kind to each other, and remember everyone is nervous.
- When you are not currently speaking or participating in The Hub experience you should be actively listening and observing.
- Respect all equipment at all times in The Hub.
- Cell phones need to be on silent (do not disturb) and put away during Hub experiences.
