The Athletics Centre (AC) at Trent and the Planet Bakery are pleased to announce an exciting partnership that will see the Planet North, a new branch of the popular downtown café, open in the lobby of the AC this month.

The Planet North will celebrate its official grand opening during a Community Open House to be held at the Athletics Centre on Saturday, January 14, 2012 from 1pm to 4pm. The café will open for regular business hours starting Monday, January 16.

A special welcome celebration for all members of the Trent community will be held on Wednesday, January 25. All Trent students, faculty and staff are encouraged to come to the Planet North that day to enjoy free coffee and try out the new menu.

The Planet North’s menu will be similar to its parent restaurant downtown and will feature homemade soups and sandwiches as well as smoothies, baked goods, specialty coffees and espresso.

“We are excited to be expanding and opening up a new café at Trent,” said Lucas French, manager of the Planet North. “With our homemade and healthy food options, the new Planet North will be a great fit with both the University and the Athletics Centre, which strives to encourage and inspire healthy lifestyles for all of their members.”

Initial hours of operation for the new Planet North will be 6am to 8pm Monday to Friday and 9am to 5pm Saturday and Sunday.
