Top eight teams from Ontario to vie for provincial title at Trent February 21-23, 2013

Trent Wins Bid to Host 2012/13 OCAA Women's Volleyball Championship

During their annual meeting in Ottawa last week, the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) announced that Trent University successfully won the bid to host the 2012/13 Women’s Volleyball Championship.

The successful bid comes on the heels of the announcement that Trent will also host the 2012 Canadian University Field Lacrosse Association’s Baggataway Cup in November 2012. These upcoming events build on Trent’s reputation as a dynamic host of national and international competition. In 2007, the University hosted the Women’s Under-19 World Lacrosse Championship and was the back-to-back host of the Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) Women’s Rugby Championships in 2010 and 2011.

“Hosting this high-calibre provincial championship is an honour for us at Trent University,” said Bill Byrick, director of Athletics & Recreation. “We look forward to welcoming Ontario’s best female volleyball players to our state-of-the-art new Athletics Centre and showing them all that Trent has to offer. It is also a great time to bring the local community up to the University in a celebration of varsity sport.”

The OCAA Women’s Volleyball Championships will be held from February 21 to 23, 2013 at Trent University and will feature the province’s top eight teams. As host, Trent will earn an automatic berth in the championship. Previously, has made an appearance in the last three OCAA championship tournaments.

"We are very excited to be hosting the OCAA Women's Volleyball Championships at Trent next season,” said Pete Carter, coach of the Trent Excalibur Women’s Volleyball team. “The team will be training at Trent's new athletic facility throughout the summer to prepare for the upcoming season and to build on our Championship qualifying success over the past three years. We are thrilled to bring this Championship Volleyball event to Peterborough and are looking forward to home court advantage and community support for our team in February!"
