Trent also tops the ranks for scholarships & bursaries, awards per full-time faculty, medical and science grants

Trent University #1 in Ontario Overall in Maclean's University Ranking

Trent University led the province overall in the primarily undergraduate category in an early release of the Maclean’s University Rankings today, coming in at number one overall in Ontario and number five in Canada, with a strong showing in the Student Support category of the survey.

Rising in the rankings over last year among 19 primarily undergraduate institutions nationally, Trent also ranked number one in the key categories of Scholarships and Bursaries, Awards Per Full-Time Faculty, and Medical and Science Grants. The University was among the top five for Student Awards (5), Student Services (2), Total Research Dollars (3), and Social Sciences and Humanities Grants (4).

“Our unique focus at Trent on the dynamic interplay between teaching and research comes through strongly in this year’s Maclean’s ranking,” said Dr. Steven E. Franklin, president and vice-chancellor of Trent University. “We are leading in key categories that are highly valued by students and their parents – and that bodes well for the future as Trent approaches its 50th anniversary year.”

The University’s strong showing in Maclean’s this year comes on the heels of positive news from both the Higher Education Strategy Council’s (HESA) study on research in Canada and the Globe and Mail University Report. The Globe and Mail study published in October 2012 gave Trent top marks on student satisfaction indicators, earning high grades for Campus Atmosphere (A-), Student/Faculty Interaction (A-), Academic Counselling (A-), Instructors' Teaching Style (A-), Quality of Teaching and Learning (A-), Most Satisfied Students (B+), Research Opportunities (B+), and Work-Play Balance (B+). HESA’s Measuring Academic Research in Canada: Field-Normalized University Rankings 2012, published in August 2012, lauded Trent University’s publication record across the arts and sciences, stating that Trent “over-performs” in academic research nationally.
