Leadership Matters: An Equity Guide for Change, Connecting Theory with Praxis
This session will highlight the harm that arises when well-intentioned systems are disconnected with lived experience. It will explore how to apply theoretical knowledge to drive actionable change and how to embed EDIA into an organizational structure. It will reference the need to include community voices in Child Welfare and share with leaders a model of EDIA work that is sustainable and strategic so as to bring about systemic and cultural change.
Presenter:
Dr. Rona Jualla van Oudenhoven is Trent's inaugural Director of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, and a passionate leader with extensive experience in Canadian and international contexts. She holds a PhD in Sociology and certifications in human rights, coaching, and inclusion. Rona is active in programs addressing gender and sexual violence, systemic and cultural violence, and rights-based approaches in policy and programs. Her book The Myth of Child Protection: An Equity Guide for Change (2022) is available in the Trent University Library.

This virtual lecture series is hosted in partnership with Trent’s Jarislowsky Chair in Trust and Political Leadership and the Leadership & Democracy Lab, along with the Frost Centre for Canadian Studies and Indigenous Studies and the Department of Political Studies.
