Trent University Mourns the Passing of Student Cha’Bria Young

November 22, 2024

The University community is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Cha’Bria Young, a dedicated student and valued member of both the Peterborough and Durham campus communities

Cha’Bria was an international undergraduate student who arrived to Canada and moved into Gzowski College in September 2017. Despite living with health challenges, Cha’Bria remained focused on her studies, and was determined to earn her Bachelor of Business Administration degree. She was a welcomed regular visitor to Trent International, known for her positive outlook and optimistic demeanour.

Returning to Trent following a medical leave, Cha’Bria moved to the Durham GTA campus where her mother, Charmaine, served as her primary caregiver.  Cha’Bria and Charmaine became integral and loved members of the residence community in Durham. Tragically, Charmaine passed away in March 2024 and Cha’Bria returned home to be with her brother. She passed in early November.

The University extends heartfelt sympathies to Cha’Bria’s family and friends, and to all who knew her at Trent University. We understand that this news will be challenging for many in the Trent community. Counselling and supports for students and employees are available.
