Newly published essay by Dr. Sean Kane features prominent alumni authors and an excerpt from recently published second novel

Novelist and Trent University professor emeritus, Dr. Sean Kane recently penned an essay on Trent’s decades-long relationship and contributions to the Canadian literary canon. Through his piece “The CanLit Children of Trent”, featured in the new edition of TRENT Magazine, Professor Kane details how Trent has and continues to be at the forefront of supporting aspiring writers.

"Since the early '70s Trent has been at the forefront of a national campaign for Canadian and more recently Indigenous literatures," Kane says summarizing his essay. "And it has supported award-winning novelists like Yann Martel '81 (Booker Prize) and Richard B. Wright (Governor-General's Award), poets like Richard Harrison (Governor-General's Award), and dramatists like Dr. Drew Hayden Taylor (D.Litt.Hon)."

Today the sentiment of Trent supporting Canadian authors and literature still rings true with the inclusion of an excerpt of Kane’s newly released second novel, Raccoon: A Wondertale in the latest issue of TRENT Magazine.

Raccoon is Professor Kane’s second novel after the acclaimed Virtual Freedom in 1998 and features an afterword by Trent honorary degree recipient and renowned Canadian author Dr. Margaret Atwood ’73 D.Litt (Hon).

You can find the essay and the excerpt in the latest edition of TRENT Magazine.
