What it Takes to Become a Police Leader
Civilian police service member elevates career goals with Trent’s micro-credential certificate in Senior Police Leadership
When Christa Dicks, a civilian member of the Cape Breton Regional Police Service, learned of Trent’s new micro-credential program in policing, she was instantly drawn to the professional, forward-looking nature of the certificate. With the program also being offered fully online, Christa says she knew the certificate would be a good fit for her.
“I chose the program because it’s a unique, niche professional program, preparing me for leadership specifically within policing in ways that I wouldn’t be able to acquire elsewhere,” Christa said. “The program ties lived and anticipated experiences with theory, and though it is online, the interactive and engaging structure of the program has given me confidence for the next steps in my career.”
Christa, who has now completed all six modules to earn the micro-credential certificate, says the experience at Trent stands out. She offers specific praise for the program’s instructors, Trent’s student supports, and the opportunities to make connections.
“My experience has been enjoyable and interesting, and the program has provided me the opportunity to make connections and learn from world class experts,” she said. “I have attended seven different universities for various courses. Trent has been one of the best for student support, instructor knowledge and expertise, and for offering a very tailored and relevant learning experience.”
Christa is now pursuing a Ph.D. in Information Technology with a focus on systems within law enforcement.
