In this edition of Trent Beat, we highlight exciting initiatives that are fostering connections, empowering students, and driving positive change within and beyond Trent University's community.

The Jalynn Bennett Amphitheatre: A Hub for Arts and Culture | CBC | Global News | Peterborough Examiner

The University proudly unveiled the Jalynn Bennett Amphitheatre, a dynamic performance space at Catharine Parr Traill College. This new hub for arts, culture, heritage, and education in downtown Peterborough promises to inspire creativity, learning, expression and enlightenment. The Amphitheatre has tiered seating for 140 people and state-of-the-art lighting and sound systems and provides a vibrant platform for experiencing arts and culture in the heart of the city, both for students and members of the community.

Community Concierge Program: Connecting Graduates with Local Employers | Kawartha Lakes This Week

The Community Concierge program, a collaboration between Trent’s Careerspace and local employers in Kawartha Lakes and Peterborough County, recently celebrated its one-year anniversary. With 36 organizations in Kawartha Lakes offering 1,500 work-integrated learning placements, the program helps upper-year Trent students transition to full-time employment within the local community.

Partnering for a Net-Zero Workforce | Academica

The University has joined forces with leading Canadian institutions, including Fanshawe College, Royal Roads University, United College (University of Waterloo), Queen's University, and the Business + Higher Education Roundtable (BHER), to develop work-integrated learning pathways in support of a net-zero future. These new partnerships aim to cultivate a highly skilled workforce equipped to drive sustainable change and innovation by providing students with relevant work experiences that support the transition toward green economies.

Pioneering Sustainable Mining Solutions | CIM Magazine

Trent University is leading the way in sustainable mining practices. Innovative research combining bioleaching and microbial mineral carbonation to store CO2 in mine tailings aims to accelerate weathering processes that remove CO2 from the atmosphere. Researchers envision mine sites becoming carbon sinks, fostering carbon-neutral or carbon-negative mining.
