Trent students and tomorrow’s future lawyers, had the opportunity to connect with professional lawyers, including Trent Chancellor and renowned entertainment and copyright lawyer Stephen Stohn, as part of a meet and greet event coordinated by the Trent/Swansea dual law program and the Peterborough Law Association (PLA).

The inspiration for the event came from PLA vice-president and proud Trent alum Curtis Pineiro ‘99, who approached the Trent/Swansea Law program with the idea at the start of the academic year. With the support of Life After Trent, the event was a tremendous success – connecting students with seasoned professionals ready to mentor students as they enter the workforce.

Meaningful career connections

“We wanted the event to provide a space for Trent/Swansea Law Dual Degree students to connect with local lawyers – to be able to learn and get advice from experienced legal professionals,” said Dr. Devin Penner, coordinator of the Trent/Swansea Law Program.

Students in their first, second, and final years of the six-year program were able to chat and mingle with Chancellor Stohn and Peterborough's local lawyers, receiving both life and career advice. Final-year student Alexis Rudat noted the valuable insight she gained from the event, saying, "I found the event particularly useful as I'm about to enter the legal workforce. Lawyers in the Peterborough area with all different types of backgrounds and legal experience were more than willing to share their insight and offer advice."

Katelyn Flemming, another final-year Trent/Swansea student, was grateful for the constructive advice received at the event, sharing, "Some of the most helpful advice I received was about the best ways to go about getting a job in a law firm."
