What is a Pow Wow?

Pow Wow means gathering or celebration. Traditionally, a Pow Wow was an annual event held after the winter snows had melted. It was a time to celebrate the renewal of life, renew old friendships and form new ones. It was an opportunity to hold naming ceremonies and other traditional honouring ceremonies.
Pow Wows are still an important part of the lives of many Anishnaabeg.

Attending the Curve Lake Annual Pow Wow is a great way to start the academic year, celebrate and learn. This trip, sponsored by the Colleges of Trent University and with support from First Peoples House of Learning, is free for all students!

The Pow Wow experience includes: dances; drumming; vendors selling goods; and vendors selling food. You can bring your own food or be prepared to purchase food from local vendors (highly recommended!)
