Largest Ever Graduating Class Celebrated at Trent University Durham GTA 2022 Convocation Ceremonies
Trent University Durham GTA will host in-person convocation ceremonies for the 2022, 2021 and 2020 graduating classes on June 2.

For the first time in three years, in-person Convocation ceremonies are returning at Trent University Durham Greater Toronto Area to celebrate all 2022 graduates – the largest graduating class in Trent Durham history – along with graduates from 2020 and 2021 on Thursday, June 2 in two ceremonies beginning at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. at the Tribute Communities Centre (99 Athol St. East) in Oshawa.

Entertainment producer and activist Bob Ezrin will also be presented with an honorary degree – Trent's highest honour – during the 2 p.m. ceremony.

“We are thrilled to be able to finally celebrate together in person to honour the achievements of our graduates and to confer degrees on our largest ever graduating class,” said Scott Henderson, dean and head of Trent University Durham GTA.

“Alongside our newest 2022 graduates, we are also pleased to invite our graduates from 2020 and 2021 to return, reconnect, and be recognized in-person following two years of virtual ceremonies. This year’s Convocation ceremonies celebrate our graduates across a range of programs including our first cohort of the Master of Management program. Trent Durham GTA continues to grow our community of scholars and offer community-integrated programs responsive to the needs of businesses and students.”

President and vice-chancellor of Trent University Dr. Leo Groarke will preside over the two convocation ceremonies on June 2. The 10 a.m. ceremony brings together 2020 and 2021 graduates for an in-person ceremony, the first since 2019. The 2 p.m. ceremony honours the 2022 class – 313 graduates from Trent University Durham GTA, the largest graduating cohort in the campus’ history, who will receive the following degrees: Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Business Administration, Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Social Work, various postgraduate certificates, and the first conferrals of Master of Management degrees.

Trent will also bestow an honorary degree on Bob Ezrin, music and entertainment producer and environmental activist, to recognize his work in media and culture as well as the fight against climate change. Mr. Ezrin has been a guest lecturer on climate emergency and media at Trent and developed a video series for Trent students on the importance of environmental activism. In his 50-year career, he has worked with variety of artists including Pink Floyd, U2, Deep Purple, Taylor Swift, Alice Cooper, and Jay-Z and he remains one of the most sought-after producers in the world.

The two Durham GTA ceremonies on June 2 are the first of 16 Convocation ceremonies at Trent University. Ceremonies will be held at the Peterborough campus from June 6 to 10 for 2022 graduates and June 13 and 14 for 2020 and 2021 graduates. Across all ceremonies, more than 2,400 graduates will be celebrated.
