Sport, which attracts great popular interest, is also the subject of serious historical investigation. It provides entertainment for mass audiences and a rich source for the social history of communities. The centenary of the Quaker Park Tennis Club is an apt occasion to explore the place of tennis in Peterborough’s past. Christopher Dummitt is a Professor of Canadian History at Trent University who writes on history, politics and culture for both scholarly and popular audiences. He also plays a lot of tennis.
