Trent Day Celebrates the Lasting Impact and Enduring Spirit of the University Community
Virtual celebration will include performances from alumni musicians of The Jerry Cans and I, The Mountain, and annual Last Lecture event
On April 9, the Trent University community, locally and abroad, will celebrate Trent Day – a new annual event marking the April 1963 signing of the Trent University Act. On this special day in the University’s history, Trent was officially granted the ability to confer degrees, marking the first step to becoming the industry-leading institution it is known as today.
“Trent University’s students, scholars and alumni inspire and support their communities. Trent Day provides us with an opportunity to support them – and the innovation, outstanding research, leadership and dedication which is the goal of a Trent degree,” says Dr. Leo Groarke, president and vice-chancellor of Trent.
Three ways to celebrate Trent Day
“In commemorating Trent Day, we are not only celebrating the spirit of this thriving community but showcasing pride in how far we have come together. Each of us has a connection to Trent that is unique, and we invite members of the Trent family to reflect on those connections and participate in this year’s activities,” says Lee Hays (’91), director, Alumni Engagement & Services.
#1 – Join us for Trent Day Live!
This year will feature a line-up of virtual activities, including a Trent Day Live! event hosted by culinary TV personalities and alumni, Maddie and Kiki, and featuring musical performances by alumni musicians from The Jerry Cans and I, The Mountain (April 8 at 7 p.m. EST). The community is also welcome to attend the Last Lecture, an annual address delivered by a graduating student, distinguished alumnus, staff member, and faculty member (April 9 at 4 p.m. EST). While all events are free, donations to the Trent Fund are welcome at all points of registration.
#2 – Post on social in honour of Trent Day
Community members are encouraged to show #TrentDay pride on social media by sharing memories or posting current photos in Trent gear. Be sure to tag @TrentAlumni and use #TrentDay hashtag to join the conversation.
#3 – Double your impact by making a gift on Trent Day
The Trent community is encouraged to make a donation on Trent Day to empower a student in need. The University, alumni volunteers and friends have generously donated challenge funds supporting the Trent Fund (areas of greatest need) and college system to be matched dollar-for-dollar in honour of this special day.
Trent Day celebrations will coincide with the official last day of winter term classes at the University, April 9, 2021.
