Trent Excalibur Student-Athletes Contribute Over 3,500 Hours of Community Service in 2025-26
Athletes across six varsity programs supported local organizations, campus events, and community initiatives throughout the season
Trent Excalibur student-athletes showcased their commitment to leadership, volunteerism, and community involvement by contributing over 3,500 hours of volunteer service on and off campus throughout the 2025-26 season.
“Community involvement and giving back are a core part of being an Excalibur student-athlete and representing Trent University,” said Nathan McFadden, director of Athletics & Recreation. “We are committed to developing holistic student-athletes who excel not only in the classroom and in competition, but also as leaders within our community. I’m so proud of the large impact our student-athletes have made this year in dedicating their time to volunteering. Their attitude towards their community reflects their character, compassion, and commitment to creating meaningful change in the lives of others.”
Excalibur student-athletes organized several initiatives directly supporting local organizations throughout the season. These efforts included fundraisers for Activity Haven, an organization focused on promoting the health and social well-being of adults 50+ in the Peterborough community, and for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Peterborough, helping contribute to programs that provide mentorship opportunities for local youth. Student-athletes also organized a food drive benefiting YES Shelter for Youth and Families.
Trent Excalibur were also engaged in initiatives on campus, including coaching youth teams, supporting sports programming for future students during Trent University events, and serving as Orientation Week leaders.
The Excalibur rowing team led all varsity programs with 2,061 volunteer hours, while the women’s volleyball team contributed 662 hours and the men’s volleyball team completed 652 hours.
The Excalibur will start their 2026-27 home season on Saturday, September 5 as the women’s rugby team hosts the McMaster Marauders at 2 p.m. at Justin Chiu Stadium.
