Chris Theodoropoulos ’74 honours his Trent mentor through all-new Alan Saxby Undergraduate Prestigious Scholarship

After arriving in Canada from Greece as a child who spoke no English, and growing up with limited financial means, Chris Theodoropoulos ’74 (Otonabee College) learned early the challenges of starting over in a new country. When it came time to pursue post-secondary, Chris found both opportunity and belonging at Trent University, which helped shape his path to a distinguished career as an executive and lawyer.

Pivotal to that journey was the support of Alan Saxby ’68, then Trent staff in the Office of the Registrar, who recognized Chris’ potential and mentored him through his undergraduate years, forging what would become a lifelong friendship.

Now Chris is honouring that impact by establishing the prestigious Alan Saxby Undergraduate Scholarship, which recognizes undergraduate students who demonstrate excellent academic achievement while overcoming challenging life circumstances.

“Alan’s encouragement and guidance gave me confidence and direction at a time when I needed it the most,” Chris says. “This scholarship is about carrying that spirit forward.”

After graduating from Trent with a B.A. in Political Studies, Chris built an accomplished career in the mining and resource sector. Today he is founder and president of Dominion Goldfields Corporation and has served as a director of several public companies across Canada. He also practiced business law in Vancouver for more than two decades, specializing in corporate finance and public companies.

"Trent set me up for success, and I hope to create opportunities for other students to see and realize their full potential at the University and in their careers,” he says.
