Anthropology is a field well-suited for investigating the promises made by tech companies about our AI-fueled future. Ethnographic fieldwork can help pull back the curtain on the hidden labor, practices, and philosophies that shape artificial intelligence. It can reveal the deeply human forces behind this seemingly autonomous technology. Join Anthropologist Joseph Wilson as he explores the human stories and the workers, thinkers, and creators who make AI possible.
Wilson has spent three past three years unmasking the rituals and cultural norms that define communities of artificial intelligence (AI) workers. Anthropology is indispensable in reminding us that the work of AI, and indeed all human endeavours, including science and technology, is not miraculous or magical, but vividly human.
