Excalibur defeat Royal Military College 2-0 during Head of the Trent, tying all-time program win record

Trent to compete at OUA playoffs on October 15.

The Trent Excalibur men’s soccer team (5-4-1, 4th in OUA East) are returning to the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) playoffs for the first time in 14 years. The Excalibur secured the berth with a final score of 2-0 over the Royal Military College (RMC) on Sunday afternoon at Justin Chiu Stadium, in front of a lively Head of the Trent crowd during the 54th annual celebration.

Trent took an early lead in the ninth minute on a goal by the nation’s goal leader, John Moncada (Scarborough, ON), who notched his 12th of the season. While the Excalibur outshot RMC 10-2, the score remained at 1-0 into extra time until Oliver Parratt (Uxbridge, ON), scored his second of the season. Trent goalkeeper Owen Schultz (Peterborough, ON), posted his third clean sheet of the season enroute to the green and white’s 2-0 victory.

With today’s victory, the Excalibur clinched their first OUA playoff appearance since 2011, and also tied the program’s all-time single-season wins record. The previous record of five wins was set in 2010. Trent still has two games remaining to attempt to break the record this season.

“This is a special moment for our student-athletes, coaches, and the entire Trent community,” said Nathan McFadden, director of Athletics & Recreation at Trent University. “The determination, resilience, and growth shown by this team has been incredible, and we are thrilled to see them rewarded with a playoff opportunity. This accomplishment is not only about this season but also the foundation being built for the future of Excalibur soccer.”

The Excalibur will finish the regular season on the road next weekend when they play at Nipissing (1-6-3) on Saturday and Laurentian (1-6-3) on Sunday. Trent will make their return to the OUA playoffs on Wednesday, October 15. The location of the match, opponent and time are still to be determined.
