Trent Lands & Nature Areas Plan receives Honourable Mention in METROPOLIS Planet Positive Awards

The Trent Lands and Nature Areas Plan, the guiding vision for the future of the Symons Campus, received honourable mention from the METROPOLIS Planet Positive awards.

Competing against submissions from across North America, Trent’s plan was recognized in the innovation-community engagement category for the efforts to include student, faculty, alumni, community and First Nations voices in the creation of the Lands Plan.

“Our goal was to create a visionary plan to guide the future of the campus, advance teaching and learning, and create deeper connections with our local community,” said Julie Davis, vice president External Relations & Development, and executive sponsor of the Trent Lands & Nature Areas Plan. “The Lands Plan offsets new standards for First Nations engagement, planning approach, environmental protections, and ongoing engagement. It’s gratifying to see our efforts recognized by industry leaders.”

To create the Trent Lands and Nature Areas Plan, the University developed a robust engagement plan meeting campus and community in person and online. Trent received more than 200 written submissions, and held more than 100 meetings, four town halls and a dozen pop-ups, engaging directly with more than 1,500 people. This valuable feedback shaped the Trent Lands & Nature Areas Plan.
