Trent faculty members are dedicated to addressing the United Nation's Sustainable Development Goals in their research

As Canada celebrates Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Week from March 4-8, Trent University reflects on our robust research initiatives that demonstrate our commitment to the United Nations' (UN) Sustainable Development Goals. Over the past decade, Trent’s faculty scholarly contributions have showcased a remarkable dedication to addressing global challenges, with an impressive 68 per cent of published research directly engaging the SDGs.

Central to Trent's research landscape is the urgent call to action encapsulated in SDG 13: Climate Action. Nearly 700 publications from our institution have delved into this critical area.

Christopher Rooney, senior director of the Office of Research and Innovation says, "Trent is committed to addressing global challenges by inspiring impactful changes, and that is really seen through the excellent research, innovation, and collaboration coming from our faculty."

Shelley Strain, coordinator of Trent's Sustainability Office, emphasizes the pivotal role of academic research in driving sustainability efforts. "Trent’s commitment to the principles of the SDGs is woven into the fabric of our research culture. Each publication addressing these goals represents a tangible step towards a more equitable and resilient world."

Throughout SDG Week and beyond, Trent takes pride in how our faculty research aligns with the UN SDGs. Trent's faculty are dedicated to advancing integrated learning, using the transformative power of higher education to create a brighter, more sustainable future for our students and future generations.
