The Degrassi franchise – created by Linda Schuyler ’18 (hon) and produced by Chancellor Stephen Stohn ‘66 – has been inducted into Canada’s Walk of Fame.

“Congratulations to Linda and Stephen on this well-deserved honour,” says Sherry Booth ’98, associate vice-president Philanthropy & Alumni. “For generations, Degrassi has tackled difficult topics such as racism and poverty, while elevating the viewpoints and stories of young people. Every episode of this iconic franchise relates to important issues of its era.”

For almost 40 years, Schuyler has been the co-creator and executive producer of the internationally acclaimed Degrassi franchise that has won numerous awards, including the prestigious Peabody award, two international Emmys, and 22 Canadian Screen awards (formerly the Gemini Awards).

A member of the Order of Canada, Schuyler is leading Trent’s $100-million Campaign for Momentous Change with Gavin Marshall ’76 (Lady Eaton College).

Chancellor Stohn is a 14-time Canadian Screen Award winner who may be best known as Degrassi’s executive producer. Also a member of the Order of Canada, he now serves as the University’s 12th chancellor and is a champion of the Momentous Campaign.

Canada’s Walk of Fame is a national not-for-profit organization that shines a light on extraordinary Canadian achievers and their successes. The 25th anniversary celebration of the Walk of Fame was held on December 2 in Toronto.
