Featuring state-of-the-art Bloomberg financial terminals, new hub connects undergraduate and graduate students in Finance, Business to real-time global financial markets and data

Dean of Science Dr. Holger Hintlemann, Dr. Michael Khan, VP Academic, Marilyn Burns, VP, Communications & Enrolment and Dr. Byron Lew, Chair of Business, are joined by students for the grand opening of the Financial Intelligence & Innovation Hub

The new Financial Intelligence & Innovation Hub unveiled today at Trent University is providing students in Finance, Business, and related programs with access to real-time financial and market data, enhancing students' learning experiences and preparing them for careers in the financial industry.

The hub, located in Peter Gzowski College on Trent’s Symons Campus in Peterborough, features 12 state-of-the-art Bloomberg financial terminals directly connected to stock market information. With direct access to sources like the New York Stock Exchange, the Security and Exchange Commission, shipping and commodity information and historic trade and demographic patterns, the terminals and new space offer an immersive, collaborative learning environment, equipping students with the latest industry-standard tools and resources.

“This state-of-the-art new facility is a testament to Trent's commitment to hands-on learning and preparing our students for career success, particularly in the financial industry,” said Dr. Michael Khan, vice president and provost Academic at Trent University. “The Financial Intelligence & Innovation Hub gives our students unique access to cutting-edge technology, preparing them to navigate the dynamic landscape of the financial industry with confidence.”

The Financial Intelligence & Innovation Hub is designed to replicate a finance-focused work environment and gives students the opportunity to bridge connections between theoretical knowledge and hands-on learning, directly applicable to the workforce. In the space, students will build their own investment portfolios, analyze market data, and create financial valuations. With access to this new hub through classes and independent study time, students will develop skills and gain experiences to become well-rounded, job-ready candidates who are prepared for success in the vibrant and fast-paced global economy.

"The terminals in the new Financial Intelligence & Innovation Hub are the same that any investment firm would have, so they provide students with hands-on experience using real data and models before they enter the workforce,” said Dr. Wesley Burr, chair of Mathematics at Trent, and one of the driving forces behind the creation of the new hub. “It was important we provide a space for students to reinforce skills employers are looking for and ensure we’re producing graduates that have gained both theoretical knowledge and practical application skills, giving them a distinct competitive edge in their chosen careers.”

The Financial Intelligence & Innovation Hub is available for all Financial Science students. It is also open to students in Finance specializations spanning Mathematics, the School of Business, and Economics, as well as graduate students in the Big Data Financial Analytics M.Sc. program at Trent.
