Trent University Durham GTA students were invited to participate in various activities around the City of Oshawa, including a dance party in the city’s downtown and a scavenger hunt with exciting prizes - all as part of the City’s second annual Orientation Experience.

Oshawa Orientation Experience partners with the three post-secondaries in Oshawa, including Trent Durham, to welcome incoming students to the area and connect them with local businesses and activities. The event is organized by the Greater Oshawa Chamber of Commerce and the City of Oshawa.

The events kicked off on Saturday, September 9 with a full day of free student-focused programming. Students were invited to a job fair hosted by the Durham Workforce Authority, where they were introduced to local employers. That evening, students took part in a DJ Dance Party, featuring a performance by DJ 4Korners, the official DJ of the Toronto Raptors.

Throughout the summer, Kevin Maina, manager of Community Engagement at Trent Durham, helped with preparations for this year’s Orientation Experience

“Now in its second year, the event has a broader footprint, greater business engagement, and a new location – all aimed at showcasing the very best of Oshawa to new and returning students. It's not just an introduction; it's an invitation to become an active part of the vibrant Oshawa community”

The Orientation Experience also features a scavenger hunt where students visit local businesses around the city as they compete to earn the most points to win prizes, including a PS5 from G.A.M.E.S., a one-year gym membership from Planet Fitness Oshawa, or a grand prize pack worth $1000 from Oshawa Markets.

Trent Durham students can still compete to win these prizes until Sunday, September 24, when the scavenger hunt concludes.
