The Frost Centre is please to invite you to a public film screening & discussion. Close Up Films presents the acclaimed documentary StreetCity by Bay Weyman.

About the event:

The film screening will be followed by an informed conversation about local solutions to homelessness. There are parallels to the village-like housing at StreetCity, and the prospect of a tiny home village in Peterborough. The director and people who are knowledgeable about homelessness and solutions will be at the screening.

About the film:

StreetCity (1998, 74 minutes) is a compelling verité documentary about formerly homeless people living in an experimental housing project in downtown Toronto. It interweaves events in the lives of StreetCity residents over six months, to explore a microcosm of their world.

People tell their own stories of hope, dreams, struggle, and resignation. The film is a very personal, often humorous, yet disturbing portrait of homeless society.

About the filmmaker:

Bay Weyman is an award-winning Canadian filmmaker who has written, produced, and directed documentary films through his production company Close Up Films for more than 30 years.  Exploring his parallel interests in social issues and popular culture, Bay has made a wide variety of films about society, history, music, arts, and performance.  His work has been shown in Canada, the US, Europe and Latin America. He is past-Chair of the Documentary Organization of Canada and the Liaison of Independent Filmmakers of Toronto. He has an MFA in Film Production from York University and an Honours BA in Comparative Development and Cultural Studies from Trent University.

There is no cost, but donations will be gratefully accepted: Cash and cheques; granola bars, cookies, and fruit; food containers; deodorant, shampoo, and conditioner. One Roof Community Centre volunteers will be on hand to accept donations.

All welcome!
