Trent Excalibur Win Bronze as Host of OUA Women’s Lacrosse Championship
Trent tackle U of T in thrilling overtime match to wrap up 2018 season
On home turf, the Trent Excalibur women’s lacrosse team took home the bronze medal in a nail-biting 6-5 overtime win during the OUA Championships hosted at Trent October 19-21.
During the championship, held at Trent for the first time, ten teams from across the province battled it out for the Patterson Cup. After their first win against Guelph, the Excalibur took a loss against Laurier in the semi-final game before being paired with, and overcoming, rivals U of T in the fight for bronze.
“The girls played with Trent pride in their hearts this weekend,” said Excalibur head coach Tori Wasson. “The team was extremely proud to host the OUA Championships for the first time in the program’s history, and we wanted to come away with a win in our last game of the season in front of our home crowd.”
Speaking of the dramatic overtime win, Coach Wasson said: “We won it for everyone that has supported us. We are so thankful to have the players that we have that give us everything every game. Trent has a bright future ahead as we build off this bronze medal win today.”
Following the championships, two Trent players were named to the 2018 OUA all-star team: Victoria Clark, of Peterborough, and Leah Michel, of Clarington.
