With a shared mission to support start-ups and early-stage Canadian companies in the clean technology sector, Cleantech Commons at Trent University and GreenCentre Canada have partnered to accelerate the development of innovative, green, and sustainable solutions that address energy, environmental and climate challenges.

“Partnering is key to adding value to emerging cleantech companies,” says Martin Yuill, Cleantech Commons executive director. “By collaborating with industry experts such as GreenCentre Canada, we are able to increase the support we offer to clean, green and low-carbon technology innovators. “Through these partnerships, we are creating a dynamic clean technology ecosystem in which academic and entrepreneurial collaboration drives discovery and innovation for a greener future.”

GreenCentre Canada’s focus is on supporting small companies, entrepreneurs, academic start-ups, and large and medium-sized corporations in the chemical and materials sector in taking their innovations to market. Their goal? To accelerate chemistry solutions that advance both the economy and the environment. Through this new partnership, Cleantech Commons and GreenCentre Canada will join forces to support the development, testing, piloting, and scaling of a range of innovative clean technology products, processes, and solutions that will directly address some of society’s most complex and pressing challenges.

Innovation today for a green tomorrow

Cleantech Commons, a partnership between Trent University and the City of Peterborough, is a hub for green technology research and innovation – right here at Trent. With internal servicing of the park almost complete, several future tenants have expressed interest in locating their operations at the research park. Through partnerships with organizations like GreenCentre Canada, Cleantech Commons is providing opportunities for Trent students, faculty, and researchers to increase the impact of their ideas, taking them from the lab to the market.

“I encourage Trent faculty and students to reach out and learn more about the opportunities already available through Cleantech Commons,” adds Martin. “Our supportive, collaborative community of entrepreneurs, funders, and industry leaders are eager to drive discovery through academic and entrepreneurial collaboration.”
