RCMP Cpl. Maureen Greyeyes-Brant ‘99 discusses her journey to a career in red

When Maureen Greyeyes-Brant ‘99 first came to Trent University as a student, there was much she didn’t know about her history as a First Nations woman – but she knew she wanted a career in law enforcement. From the banks of the Otonabee to the ranks of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), Maureen is now the national coordinator for the very program that recruited her – the RCMP's Indigenous Pre-Cadet Training Program (IPTP).

“When I came to Trent, it was an eye-opening experience to learn about myself. Being a First Nations woman, Plains Cree from Muskeg Lake Cree Nation, adopted and welcomed into the Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte, an opportunity to learn about who I am and the history that my people have experienced, and that knowledge developed me into the individual you see today. It also helped me to make the career choice that I decided to take for my path which is the RCMP.”
