Dr. Boulby was a faculty member at Trent for over 15 years

The Trent University community is saddened to learn of the passing of Dr. Marion Boulby, a long-time faculty member in the History department, who worked at the University for 18 years.

Dr. Boulby began her career at Trent in 2004 as an assistant professor in the department of History, a position she held for four years. In 2008 Dr. Boulby was appointed to associate professor in the department of History where she continued her career at the University. In addition to her teaching, Dr. Boulby was an active researcher, pursuing her interest in the study of the history of the Modern Middle East from the nineteenth-century Ottoman era to the present day.

Below is an excerpt from Dr. Boulby’s obituary notice:

Marion was born in Leeds, England and immigrated with her family, first to the United States, and then to Canada. Marion was an Associate Professor of History at Trent University in Peterborough. As an academic, Marion loved teaching as much as research. She was a traveller and, in her day, a marvelous cook. Marion was the beloved daughter of the late Jean and Mark. She is mourned by her sister, Sarah; her brother-in-law, Perry; her nephew, Thomas; her aunt, Gillian and family. A private funeral will be held at Mount Pleasant Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make donations, in her memory, to Amnesty International.

The University extends heartfelt sympathies to the family and friends of Dr. Boulby and to all who knew her at Trent. In honour of Dr. Boulby the flag atop the Bata Library will be lowered to half-mast position on April 25, the day of her memorial service.
