Coming into his fourth year as a joint major in Business Administration and Sociology, Mohamad Ellabban hopes to lead the country one day. Knowing leadership when they see it, the Greater Peterborough Chamber of Commerce (GPCC) and the Trent School of Business recognized his ambition with a leadership prize—further ensuring that his name will be a memorable one in the local business community.

Many paths to leadership at Trent’s School of Business

“After taking several Business electives, I found the material very interesting and pragmatic with real-world applications that could create many opportunities in the future,” revealed Mohamad, who originally came to Trent to study Sociology.

At Trent, he discovered a welcoming environment with teaching staff and faculty who profoundly influenced his experience. In addition to learning key principles and values, he found knowledge and passion.

“Trent's School of Business should be seen as a model of what leadership truly is,” states Mohamad. “Offering a multitude of specializations, programs, and courses that emphasize leadership-oriented skills and knowledge allows Trent's School of Business to stand out as it paves several paths for students to become leaders.”

“I believe everyone should take a chance at opportunities when they present themselves,” states Mohamad. “I hope this award allows me to create connections with others like me, as having professional interpersonal relationships is truly priceless.”

Thankful for the award which will assist him financially, academically, and professionally, he said, “I am forever grateful.”

Trent University continues to hold the top position in Canada for undergraduate scholarships and bursaries. The Peterborough Chamber of Commerce Award is one of several scholarships, prizes and awards offered through Trent’s School of Business. The GPCC presents the $1,000 prize to a third-year student who demonstrates great business leadership potential and initiative beyond academics.

"Trent makes applying to scholarships so simple,” reflects Mohamad. “I was able to compose my entire essay application from the heart."

A natural leader
“I strove to become a transparent voice for those I represent,” said Mohamad, who feels his student leadership experiences drove his passion and provided key know-how to excel in the future.

He feels that Trent is a pivotal stepping-stone in his academic and professional journey.

“I intend to go to law school, in hopes of becoming a lawyer, then a judge, and someday, the prime minister. We must dream big to achieve our goals, as we will only ever get as far as our aspirations.”
