With its vision of becoming Canada’s premier green technology and innovation site, Cleantech Commons at Trent University, is hoping to inspire the innovators of tomorrow by partnering with Rain It In, an annual competition that challenges post-secondary students to create innovative solutions that will mitigate the impacts of intense rainfall events and flooding caused by climate change.

“Trent University is renowned as one of Canada’s leading environmental academic institutions, and it would be fantastic to see our students embrace this opportunity to contribute to the fight against climate change,” says Mr. Martin Yuill, Cleantech Commons executive director.

As part of the competition, students gain hands-on experience as they research the impact of uncommon rainfall events and the risks of increased flooding. Teams selected to participate will receive support from industry experts to bring their projects to life. Mr. Yuill will serve as one of these student mentors and will be presenting a Skills Development Workshop in March this year.

“Rain It In provides a unique experiential learning opportunity for students where they can take the knowledge and skills they are developing through their education and apply it to a challenging real-world problem,” Mr. Yuill says.
