Yllka Bojku is passionately committed to equal opportunity education and wellness for international students

Yllka Bojku poses in a photo.

As a third-year joint major Mathematics and Computer Science student, Yllka Bojku is committed to inclusivity and access to education for her fellow international and refugee students.

Recognized for her dedication and concern for gender equality and mental well-being, Ms. Bojku has been strongly committed to giving back to the Trent community through her various peer mentorship and leadership roles including serving as co-chair of World University Service of Canada (WUSC) at Trent - Student Refugee Program.

“Access to computers was difficult, so I grew up without a computer, and had my first computer when I first came to Canada, and now I’m studying Computer Science. Technology really fascinates me.” notes Ms. Bojku. “Because of the involvement that I’ve had at Trent, I hope to continue working towards making education accessible for people around the world. I want to help women in STEM fields by showing them that if I am able to do it, everyone can do it.”

Ms. Bojku’s ongoing educational leadership has been recognized with numerous international scholarships and awards including the Leonard Connolly Student Leadership award which she received for her creation of student-focused teaching tools to raise awareness of Trent’s student refugee program.

Currently, Ms. Bojku is initiating collaborative workshops between Trent’s WUSC, the TCSA, and Trent Health Services to support international and refugee student mental and physical wellbeing. She credits her ongoing success here at Trent to the individual concern and personalized support she receives from her professors and looks forward to using her degree to continue her work supporting women in the science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields.
