Expanded Head of the Trent Regatta & Enthusiastic Crowds Expected at Trent’s Annual Homecoming October 4-6
Community & future students invited to Trent for weekend of rowing, reunions, varsity games and campus tours
This weekend, the community is invited to don their green and white and take part in the festivities at Trent University’s annual Homecoming and Head of the Trent Regatta, October 4 to 6, 2019.
The annual event features alumni activities, campus tours, varsity sports and a two-day rowing head race, all free to spectators and fans. Free parking is available to all on Trent’s East Bank, via East Bank Drive.
“The annual Homecoming and Head of the Trent Regatta has been running for almost 50 years. This exciting fall tradition has something for everyone to enjoy, during one of the most scenic times of the year,” says Lee Hays ’91, director of Alumni Engagement & Services, “In addition to rowing and varsity games, all Colleges are open and look forward to welcoming their alumni back to campus.”
The annual weekend has grown to feature not only two days of rowing, but also a full slate of varsity and alumni games including lacrosse, rugby, soccer and volleyball. This year, varsity games start on Friday night at 8:00 p.m. with Men’s Lacrosse and continue on Saturday and Sunday with Men’s and Women’s Soccer, Men’s Rugby, and Women’s Volleyball exhibition games at the Justin Chiu Stadium and in the Trent Athletics Centre. The rowing regatta starts at 8:00 a.m.
Highlights of the 2019 Homecoming & Head of the Trent Regatta include:
- Campus Tours: Future students are invited to experience the spirit of the Trent campus and community. Tours run hourly from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday from the Athletics Centre.
- Alumni: Visit the Alumni welcome tents on the Bata Library podium to pick up your Alumni bracelet for special perks, take part in giveaways, purchase swag, or enjoy live music at the Alumni pub gathering in the Ceilie. Stay connected by following @TrentAlumni
- College Rally & Reunions: Stop by your college between 11:00 a.m. – 1:30 p.m., purchase swag and meet the college principals. Reunions culminate in an all-colleges rally at 2 p.m. on the Bata Library podium for a special announcement.
- 1969 Men’s Rugby Team Reunion featuring an alumni exhibition game, coffee and refreshments, as well as recognition of the team during half time of the 5:45 pm between Trent Excalibur Men’s Rugby game as they play the University of Toronto.
- Varsity Games: Stop by the Justin Chiu Stadium and the Athletics Centre, wear your Trent green, cheer on the Excalibur. Follow @TrentExcalibur for up to the minute stats, highlights and photos throughout the day.
- Family Zone: Crafts, games and face painting for the kids at Justin Chiu Stadium.
- Rowing, rowing and more rowing: New this year the Head of the Trent Regatta runs Saturday and Sunday! Visit hotr.ca or follow @rowhotr for the full rowing schedule, start times, results and more information about the history of the regatta.
- Rower’s Beer Garden: Saturday from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., located in Lot G behind Lady Eaton College. Enjoy live music and food, collect this year's Head of the Trent mug and support rowing at Trent and in Peterborough. Alumni can bring their alumni cards to receive a green ID bracelet to access the fast track line.
The Head of the Trent Regatta was created in 1971 by Trent alumnus Chris Leach ‘70, today Head of the Trent includes over 500 boats and more than 2,000 athletes from clubs and universities across Canada and the northern United States. Races take place on the historic Trent-Severn Waterway, starting at the Parkhill Road Bridge and winding through the Trent Canal to finish at the Faryon Bridge on Trent’s Symons Campus.
Known by the acronym “HOTR,” the weekend is organized in partnership between Peterborough Rowing Club, Trent University, Trent University Rowing Club, Peterborough Community Police, and the Trent Athletics & Recreation Department.
