One of Trent’s longest serving employees, Ms. Mills began working at the University in 1965

The Trent University community is saddened to learn of the passing of Pauline Mills, who was the University’s longest serving employees at the time of her retirement in 2008.

Ms. Mills joined the University in 1965 at the age of 17 as a clerk in the Engineers Department (now the Mailroom and Print Shop). From there, she moved on to work in the Finance department and in 1998 as the administrative assistant to the director of Athletics, a position she held until her retirement. In total, she worked at the University for an impressive 43 years.

A graduate of Trent University, Ms. Mills took her first part-time class in 1993 after becoming interested while taking notes for hearing impaired students. At the time, she wasn’t thinking of completing a B.A. but, as the years went by and the courses accumulated, she realized the goal was attainable. In 2006 she received her B.A. in Indigenous Studies.

Below is an excerpt from her obituary notice:

MILLS-JONES, Pauline Margaret (Retired Administrator Trent University, Long-time Minor hockey and minor lacrosse volunteer) – Peacefully with her family by her side after a courageous battle with cancer at PRHC Palliative Care Unit on Sunday, January 13, 2019 at the age of 71. There will be a Celebration of Pauline’s Life held at the HIGHLAND PARK FUNERAL CENTRE 2510 Bensfort Rd., Peterborough On Saturday, June 8, 2019 from 10:30-12:30 PM. Private family interment.  In memory of Pauline, donations to the PRHC Palliative Care Unit would be appreciated by the family.  Online condolences may be made at www.highlandparkfuneralcentre.com

Trent University extends heartfelt sympathies to Ms. Mills’ family and friends, and to all who knew her at Trent University.
