New Student Centre Open for Classes
Inaugural lecture in Stohn Hall helps to launch new academic year at Trent
After much anticipation, the first lecture ever to be held in Trent University’s new Student Centre took place at 8 a.m. on September 7, the first day of classes of the new academic year. First-year students in Dr. Kathryn Norlock’s Introduction to Philosophy: Moral and Political class were given a warm welcome to Stohn Hall – the Student Centre’s 200-seat tiered theatre for lectures, special events and performances.
“Thank you for coming to the first class held in Stohn Hall,” said Professor Norlock. “This is a very good room for what will be a very good class.”
In addition to Stohn Hall, two other state-of-the-art, high-tech classrooms were also opened to students for the first day of class – a 60-seat active learning classroom equipped with projectors, whiteboards and moveable seating and a 100-seat tiered lecture hall.
Students at today’s lecture in Stohn Hall were very excited about their first of many classes in the new Student Centre, with many saying they cannot wait for the rest of the building to be completed in the coming weeks.
