Annual fundraiser helps grow varsity athlete scholarship program at Trent University

In partnership with title sponsor Ameresco, golfers, sponsors and varsity student-athletes and coaches raised $55,000 in support of the Excalibur Green & White Scholarships at this year’s 13th annual Trent University President’s Excalibur Golf Tournament.

“It is incredible to see so many business leaders and varsity student-athletes come together for this cause. Their commitment and leadership continues to raise funds that support our student-athletes in their pursuit of academic and athletic excellence,” said Dr. Groarke, president and vice-chancellor, Trent University. “I would like to thank all of our sponsors and guests who supported the 13th Annual President’s Excalibur Golf Tournament.”

Trent Athletics is extremely honoured that Ameresco, a global, multinational corporation, is committed to expanded opportunities for varsity student-athletes. “The Green & White scholarship program has a direct impact on the success of our varsity program. Annually this tournament raises money to support the Excalibur Green & White Athletic Scholarship Fund which in turn helps make the amazing Trent Experience a reality for incoming varsity student-athletes,” said Deborah Bright-Brundle, director, Athletics & Recreation, for Trent University.

President Groarke was on hand to take part in the day, greeting golfers and student-athletes. “We would also like to recognize President Groarke for his continued support and involvement in the growth of varsity athletics at Trent,” added Ms. Brundle. “President Groarke’s leadership brings tremendous energy and has a positive impact on the success of this year’s tournament and the success of our varsity program throughout the year.”

Emceeing the day was Excalibur men’s rowing varsity student-athlete Dayton Kelly. Mr. Kelly continues to excel and demonstrates academic excellence and exceptional leadership. The keynote guest speaker for the evening was Jacqueline Robinson. Ms. Robinson is a captain of the women’s varsity lacrosse team that won the 2016 OUA Championships. Not only did the team win the championship, they won the league gold medal after an undefeated season. Ms. Robinson has been playing lacrosse since 2003 (since 2015 at Trent) and she is in her second year of her Masters’ degree in Psychology at Trent University.

The 2017 Winning Foursome title went to the team from tournament sponsors Baden Coffee including Cam Burke, Mark Murdoch, Katie Burke and Dean Wiskens. Other winners, included Closest-to-the-Pin: Louise Pillar & Martin Kennaley and Longest Drive winners’ Sally Graham & Adam Heersink.

Congratulations and thanks go out to everyone who participated, with special appreciation to the many generous sponsors who helped make this year’s event such a success.
