Over 200 hackers hacking the hackathon

Group of students presenting their project

Trent University’s Student Centre was abuzz with excited, bright minds working tirelessly on incredible software and hardware projects. From November 2 to November 4, 2018, Trent University held the third annual 37-hour hackathon extravaganza, Electric City Hacks.

Electric City Hacks provided the opportunity for students of many different disciplines to come together to create an original project in teams. This year, students created apps, programs, and/or hardware “hacks” that encapsulated many different areas of technology and attempted to provide solutions to universal issues like mental health and environmental concerns.

Electric City Hacks is a collective effort between the student organizers, sponsors, mentors, and volunteers. The 2018 hackathon once again brought together industry professionals and students. Industry professionals provided networking opportunities and mentorship throughout the weekend. Workshops run by industry professionals and high level students, such as Introduction to Linux, Introduction to Python, and Computer Vision, allowed hackers to gain invaluable information needed for their projects and provide much needed breaks.

With high school and postsecondary students all hacking together, Electric City Hacks promotes a hackathon full of inclusivity, creativity, and exciting challenges. Electric City Hacks is an excellent opportunity to meet new friends, make industry connections, and increase your knowledge base in the world of computing.

If you want to keep updated with future Electric City Hacks, follow Electric City Hacks on Facebook and Instagram, and @echacks on Twitter.
