Good things come in threes for Grace VandenBroek. In just three weeks, the rower from Douro Dummer added Trent business student, Excalibur athlete, and most recently, youth Olympian to her list of titles.

Rowing Canada Aviron, in partnership with the Canadian Olympic Committee, nominated Ms. VandenBroek to Team Canada for the 2018 Youth Olympic Games  in Buenos Aires October 7-11, 2018.

“I am thrilled and honoured to be able to represent Canada at the Youth Olympic Games in Argentina,” said Ms. VandenBroek.  “This is an amazing opportunity to compete with the best young rowers in the world and to make new connections with people around the globe. I look forward to wearing our Canadian flag with pride.”

Last year Ms. VandenBroek had top-tier American and Canadian universities actively pursuing her after an impressive showing at the world junior rowing championships, but the young rower had already chosen her postsecondary home – Trent University, largely to continue training with Carol Love, Rowing Canada’s NextGen Hub lead coach and one of the best rowing coaches in the country.

“Grace was introduced to rowing through Rowing Canada Aviron’s talent search in local high schools,” said Ms. Love. “Her progression from her first strokes at the Peterborough Rowing Club to several international starts has fed her passion for the sport. Being selected to participate in the Youth Olympics will be a significant benchmark for Grace in her development.”
