Trent University has received national recognition with two awards from the Canadian Council for the Advancement of Education (CCAE) in the 2018 Prix D’Excellence Awards – silver in the Best Alumni Event Category and a bronze in the Best New Idea: Creativity on a Shoestring category.

“It’s an honour for Trent University staff and volunteers to be recognized for outstanding achievements in alumni affairs and annual giving,” said Alumni Affairs director, Lee Hays ’91. “We share these awards with the alumni and donors who support the University by attending events and contributing to student success.”

The silver award was presented for the Ideas That Change the World: A Celebration of 50 years of Trent Alumni event, which hosted by alumnus Stephen Stohn ’66 and his partner, Linda Schuyler, at their Toronto lakeshore condominium. The event brought together over 140 alumni, retirees and friends for an evening of inspiring talks and the bestowing of four prestigious alumni awards.

Bronze honours were awarded for Trent’s innovative #CrushtheCollegeChallenge campaign, part of the University’s Unleash the Potential fundraising campaign, which used Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn, as well as e-mail and telefundraising, to create College enhancement endowment funds for each of Trent’s five colleges on Giving Tuesday. The $75,000 goal was exceeded by raising $80,912 for colleges in addition to another $71,920 in donations, bringing Trent’s Giving Tuesday fundraising total to an impressive $152,832.

Trent recently wrapped up the Unleash the Potential $50 million campaign, raising $56.8 million in the most ambitious campaign in the University’s history.

The CCAE Prix D’Excellence awards, presented on June 6 at a national conference in Halifax, recognize outstanding achievements in alumni affairs, public affairs, development, and overall institutional advancement in universities across Canada.
