With years of experience as an elite player and coach on his resume, it is fitting that Mark Farthing take on the new head coach role for Trent University’s men’s Excalibur lacrosse team.

“Trent Athletics is very pleased to have Mark take on the role of head coach for the Trent Excalibur Men’s lacrosse program,” said Deborah Bright-Brundle, director of Athletics at Trent University. “I know he will build on the tradition of athletic success and support our Excalibur student-athletes in setting and achieving their individual and team high performance goals.”

Mr. Farthing has been a longtime player himself. During his career as a player he won two Mann Cups as a member of the Peterborough Lakers, two titles at the Baggataway Cup as a student athlete at Brock University, took home the Canadian Lacrosse League (CLax) Creator's Cup, and had the honour of playing for the Toronto Rock in the National Lacrosse League.

Along with his impressive resume as a player, Mr. Farthing has also coached lacrosse for many years. He was the defensive coordinator with Trent University’s men’s lacrosse team for five seasons, once earning a spot in the Baggataway Cup final, and once being named as part of the 2016 Canadian University Field Lacrosse Association coaching staff of the year. He also served a year as the defensive coach for the Peterborough Jr. A Lakers, and has led the Peterborough Bantam A Lakers to provincial gold. He is currently coaching with Evolve Elite lacrosse.

Commenting on his new role, Mr. Farthing said,

“I have spent time in the lacrosse world for as long as I can remember. It’s part of who I am, and what I do. The program that’s been established here at Trent is top-tier. I look forward to building upon this program in the coming years. Trent University will be a force to be reckoned with on the lacrosse field for years to come.”

Mr. Farthing, who was the assistant coach of the team this past year, will start his role as head coach this May for a one-year term.
