New law and medical pathways among innovative new programs contributing to expected 20% increase in attendance at event

A growing list of innovative academic programs, top rankings and impressive grad employment rates are attracting more student interest than ever in Trent University, with registrations up twenty per cent for March Break Open House at Trent’s Symons Campus in Peterborough on Friday, March 16, 2018 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

“There is no doubt Trent University is on students’ radar with increases applications and open house registrations for the third year in a row. Open House is the perfect time to visit campus, chat with current students and professors, and really get a sense of the transformative living and learning community at Trent,” said Marilyn Burns, associate vice-president, Marketing & Recruitment. “Unique new program offerings, exciting developments like the new Student Centre, NextGen Rowing Hub and our library of the future along with more and more hands-on learning opportunities to pair classroom learning with real-world experience – we look forward to sharing all this and more with future students and their guests.”

Open House Highlights

Attendees visiting Trent’s March Open House this Friday in Peterborough will have the opportunity to:

  • Celebrate their acceptance to Trent with an official commemorative photo
  • Speak with professors and current students about their program of interest at the academic and student services fair
  • Tour Trent’s campus, including residence buildings, the brand new Student Centre, labs, lecture halls, Athletics Centre (home of one of only four the NextGen Rowing Hubs in the entire country) and more

  • Attend mini-lectures and information sessions

Bus-to-Us from Four Cities

Trent University will continue to offer students throughout the GTA (stops at Union Station and Scarborough Town Centre), Kingston, Belleville and Ottawa a bus-to-us program with free pick-up and drop-off to the Peterborough Open House. All students who attend Open House will also be entered in a draw to win their first-year tuition.

New Programs Abound

Innovative new programs abound at the campus, creating more interest than ever in the Trent experience, including: Law & Arts, Law & Business, medical and veterinary school pathways, Environmental Geoscience, and Conservation Biology. Popular programs within Trent’s prestigious schools of study: the School of Business, Chanie Wenjack School for Indigenous Studies, Trent School of the Environment, Trent/Fleming School of Nursing, School of Education, School for the Study of Canada, and School of Graduate Studies, have also caught the eye of prospective students from across the province and beyond.

Rankings, Careers and Employment

Students attending the event have also been drawn by Trent’s ranking as the #1 undergraduate university in Ontario for seven years running, impressive 95% employment rate within two years of graduation, as well as recently-introduced career and experiential learning opportunities that provide resume-building content that better prepares Trent students for career-readiness upon graduation.

“As soon as I set foot on Trent campus I realized that this was the place for me. Between meeting faculty and exploring the campus, the Trent Open House gave me the opportunity to really appreciate all that Trent had to offer,” said fourth-year Psychology student Laurel Pirrie. “The time I spent talking to current students about different programs, clubs, groups and activities gave me a more in-depth view of Trent. I felt connected; I felt at home.”

Future students are invited to share a photo of their time at Open House using the hashtag #DiscoverTrentU for a chance to win Trent swag.
