Future Students Invited to Discover Trent University Durham GTA at March Break Open House

Attendance expected to be up by 15% on strength on new programs and upcoming campus expansion on Thornton Road South

Whether they are drawn in by the growing list of dynamic academic programs, major campus expansion plans, the proximity to downtown Toronto, or impressive grad employment rates, more future students than ever and their families are expected to visit Trent University Durham Greater Toronto Area (GTA) on Saturday, March 10, 2018 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. for March Break Open House. 

“Trent Durham GTA offers students an extraordinary academic and experiential learning environment, and we look forward to showing future students just that,” says Joe Muldoon, head of Trent’s Durham GTA campus, located on Thornton Road South in the City of Oshawa. “Our enthusiastic student population is growing and our campus is expanding. It’s an exciting time to be a student at Trent Durham. We encourage anyone interested in learning more to come out to Open House to meet current students, chat with professors, and experience our close-knit community first-hand.”

At the Trent Durham GTA March Open House, guests will have the opportunity to:

  • Apply or accept their Trent Durham GTA offer, right on the spot
  • Celebrate their acceptance to Trent with an official commemorative photo
  • Speak with professors and students about programs of interest and student life
  • Tour the Trent University Durham GTA campus, including residences and the Civic Recreation Centre
  • Find out more about co-op, placements and internships and how Trent Durham GTA prepares graduates for future careers with hands-on learning
  • Attend mini-lectures and information sessions

Trent University Durham GTA has exciting expansion plans in the works. Guests will learn more about this expansion project which will see two new buildings, including academic space and residence, added to the growing campus.

Popular joint-majors and innovative new programs abound at the campus, creating more interest than ever in the Trent Durham experience, including: Law & Arts, Social Work, Business Administration, English & Psychology, and Philosophy & Business, as well as Child & Youth Studies and a three-year Communications & Critical Thinking B.A. program, both offered exclusively at the Durham GTA campus. Popular programs also include: Psychology, Sociology, History, English, Media Studies, Teacher Education, and more.

Students attending the event have also been drawn by Trent’s impressive 95% employment rate within two years of graduation, as well as recently-introduced career and experiential learning opportunities that provide resume-building content that better prepares Trent students for career-readiness upon graduation.

“The first thing I noticed when I came to Trent University’s Open House as a high school student, was the energy,” said Nilo Honarbakhsh, a second-year Social Work student at Trent Durham GTA. “There is such an incredible atmosphere present on campus. Current students, professors, and faculty are always available to assist future students with any questions they have, and help create an exciting, memorable experience for their first visit to Trent Durham.”

Future students who attend Open House will be automatically entered into a draw for a chance to win free first-year tuition. Attendees are also invited to post a photo of their experience at Open House using the hashtag #DiscoverTrentU for a chance to win a Trent hoodie.

Transportation reimbursements are also available for guests travelling to Open House using Go Transit.

Open House at Trent University’s Peterborough campus will be held on Friday, March 16 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
