Book signing by author D'Arcy Jenish at Peterborough Chapters November 14

Telling the remarkable history of Trent’s first 50 years through the stories of alumni, faculty, staff and members of the community, the University’s 50th anniversary commemorative book, Trent University: Celebrating 50 Years of Excellence, is available for purchase online, from the Trent University Bookstore and now also at Chapters Peterborough.

In the fall of 1964, Trent University opened its doors to the first class of 102 graduates. Fifty years and 40,000 graduates later, the spirit that formed the foundation of Trent still lives on. In Trent University: Celebrating 50 Years of Excellence, author D’Arcy Jenish brings this spirit to life narrating the comprehensive history of Trent University through celebrating the shared passion and commitment of its students, staff, faculty, alumni, and local community.

“I enjoyed researching and writing the book from start to finish”, says Jenish. “The response from readers has been very gratifying and I’ve been honoured to have a part in celebrating the 50th anniversary of this great university.”

D’Arcy Jenish, a Trent alumnus, distinguished journalist and one of Canada’s leading popular historians, has written nine books, including Epic Wanderer: David Thompson and the Mapping of the Canadian West, and most recently national bestseller, The NHL: A Centennial History. The 50th anniversary book encompasses events and stories from archival sources as well as accounts provided by faculty, staff, alumni, community and students.

“It was truly a great book, I was astounded at the amount of detail and multi-perspectives you were able to cover,” says Shelagh Grant, former Trent student and current Trent faculty. Since the launch of the 50th anniversary book on Thursday August 7, 2014 readers have commented how Jenish was able to truly “capture the Trent experience” and congratulate him on creating such a “readable yet complex piece of interesting local history”.
