Career & Summer Job Fairs: Connecting Trent Students with Employment Opportunities
2017 Career and Summer Job Fair welcomes local businesses to campus
On Wednesday, February 1, over 500 Trent students and recent alumni gathered for the opportunity to connect and network with over 40 organizations at the 2017 Career and Summer Job Fair. The annual event, organized by the Career Centre, welcomed a variety of local employment planning agencies and services and featured entry-level positions, summer jobs, on-campus jobs.
Michelle Gillespie, aquatic science operations specialist with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry, enjoyed interacting and discussing potential summer job opportunities with Trent students, saying, “We are looking forward to receiving applications and will hopefully have some successful candidates from Trent join our team for the summer field season.”
The feeling was mutual among exhibitors with several commenting on the high calibre of the conversations they had with Trent students and recent alumni. “I was able to have a number of great conversations with graduating students about their career plans and was impressed with the thoughtful questions and dialogue we shared,” said Doug Lytle, business development manager with Century 21 United Realty Inc., who was incredibly pleased with both the turn-out and quality of candidates that he and his team spoke with at the event.
Students and recent alumni were just as enthusiastic about their experience at the event. “It was a great day with a lot of a variety in exhibitors. Two of my friends have already received follow-up phone calls to schedule interviews from the event,” said Anuj Arora, a second-year Computing and Information Studies student.
Throughout the day, each exhibitor reported speaking to well over 100 students. Organizations in attendance included: Canada Revenue Agency; Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry; Bark Lake Leadership Centre; Community Living Peterborough; Century 21 Realty Inc.; Anishinabek/Ontario Fisheries; Peterborough Economic Development; Dnaagdawenmag Binnoojiiyag Child and Family Services; and Camp Maple Leaf.
