Trent Athlete Identified as Young Olympic Hopeful
Trent University’s Trevor Jones will be one of 25 athletes to receive RBC Training Ground support
Trevor Jones, a second-year rower at Trent University, has added another accomplishment to his rowing resume – RBC Training Ground funding to support his ambition to be a future Olympian.
RBC Training Ground is a partnership between RBC, CBC, the Canadian Olympic Committee and the Canadian Olympic Foundation. Athletes between the ages of 14 and 25 will execute a series of workouts measuring speed, power, strength and endurance in front of coaches and officials from National Sport Organizations (NSOs). The participants’ results will be measured against performance benchmarks to determine an athlete's capacity for sport at its highest level. Mr. Jones is one of only 25 individuals who have made it through the two-phase testing to receive this funding.
“Trevor has shown tremendous potential to excel internationally in rowing,” said Trent’s Row to Podium coach Carol Love. “He was identified for his natural talent, and has demonstrated the perseverance and grit needed to excel in rowing. He is an exciting prospect to work with.”
Mr. Jones has had a fantastic year already with a U23 Championship Final, a race with fellow Trent rower Graham Peeters at the World University Championships, and victories in the National Rowing Championships as well as the Canadian University Championships in the single. Mr. Jones continues his off-season training at the Talent Development Centre at Trent University.
