Honourable Reza Moridi welcomed to Trent University

The Honourable Reza Moridi, Minister of Research and Innovation and Minister of Training, Colleges and Universities, met with Dr. Leo Groarke, president and vice-chancellor, Dr. Neil Emery, vice-president of Research and International, Julie Davis, vice-president of Advancement and External Relations

Trent’s world-class research facilities were on display recently for a special guest visiting the Peterborough area. The Honourable Reza Moridi, Minister of Research and Innovation and Minister of Training, Colleges and Universities, met with Dr. Leo Groarke, president and vice-chancellor, Dr. Neil Emery, vice-president of Research and International, Julie Davis, vice-president of Advancement and External Relations, and Stephanie Williams, associate vice-president of Human Resources.

Following a brief meeting, Minister Moridi visited the recently expanded Water Quality Centre (WQC). Dr. Bastian Georg and Dr. Jean-François Koprivnjak, both research scientists at the WQC, toured him through the lab, spoke of their research and highlighted new equipment, including the new Bruker (SolariX-XR) Extreme Resolution mass spectrometer – the first of its kind in Canada.

"It was nice to have Minister Moridi on campus to show him the state-of-the-art research facilities in our Water Quality Centre which his Ministry helped us finance. It was also great to have our local MPP, Honourable Jeff Leal ‘74 at our meeting. Jeff is always greatly supportive of Trent’s research efforts” Dr. Emery commented.

Trent University’s WQC is an analytical facility, a training facility and a research facility that has attracted graduate students, post-doctoral fellows and scientists from institutions around the world, to use the instruments and state-of the art lab. The WQC is known as one of North America’s most advanced facilities of this kind due to their unparalleled breadth of expertise, advanced technology and capacity for in-depth chemical analysis.

Over the last 10 years the Province of Ontario has provided over $6,000,000 in funding for equipment in the Water Quality Centre at Trent University.
