With entrepreneurship increasingly becoming one of the key drivers of the new economy, Trent University has launched an innovative new postgraduate certificate program in Marketing and Entrepreneurship, providing students with a competitive edge and equipping them with the knowledge and experience needed to become successful innovators, entrepreneurs and change makers.

Offered at both Trent’s campuses in Peterborough and Durham, the program, which is now accepting students for fall 2016, is open to students who hold an undergraduate degree from any accredited university. Trent graduates can receive automatic entry into the program after completion of their undergraduate degree requirements.

“The postgraduate certificate in Marketing and Entrepreneurship is an excellent addition to Trent’s academic programming and is applicable to virtually every career path,” noted Dr. Marco Pollanen, chair of the Business Administration department at Trent. “Given the appetite for a more self-sustaining economy, Trent is right on the mark in offering students the opportunity to hone the practical skills that are required in the workforce.”

The intensive program, which can be taken full-time or part-time and completed in as little as one year, features courses in entrepreneurship, marketing, branding and advertising, and equips graduates with a foundational suite of skills to launch a business, pursue a passion for research and innovation, or increase marketability for potential employers.

“The development of innovative programming at Trent is paramount,” added Dr. Jackie Muldoon, provost and vice-president academic. “Modern and timely academic offerings such as the certificate in Marketing and Entrepreneurship is another example of the ways in which Trent is acclimatizing to ensure that it remains current.”

At Trent University, a growing commitment to entrepreneurship can be seen through the development, launch and growth of several initiatives. In addition to the new postgraduate certificate program in Marketing & Entrepreneurship, Trent has announced plans to create a new Centre for Social Business Innovation and Entrepreneurship, to cultivate student-led initiatives and start-ups by providing experiential and interdisciplinary learning opportunities, as well as access to mentors, partners and resources. In 2014, Trent also launched FastStart, an entrepreneurial training partnership designed to increase entrepreneurship skills and awareness for students. In partnership with several other academic institutions and community organizations, FastStart enables students to access resources, mentors, programs and services learn how to launch their own business or enterprise.
