Trent Closes in on 500 Members for CBC’s One Million Acts of Green
Trent University’s dominance as the largest group involved in CBC’s One Million Acts of Green continues to grow as its membership nears the 500 mark, nearly doubling the second place group.
Since Trent signed on as a group on November 20, a nation-leading 493 people have joined, registering more than 15,525 acts of green, that have reduced greenhouse gas emissions by 753,287.25 kg. These totals continue to grow daily, firmly entrenching Trent’s dominance as the group having the greatest environmental impact of any organization in Canada through the One Million Acts of Green campaign.
The organizers of CBC’s One Million Acts of Green issued a national press release on December 10 congratulating Trent University for being the number one group in Canada. Trent has received considerable media coverage for its achievement, with coverage on CBC Radio’s Ontario Morning program and in Peterborough This Week.
The press release states that “Trent University is proving that it is taking the lead as green schools go,” noting that the campaign reached its halfway milestone of 500,000 far more quickly than anticipated – in less than two months – thanks to the eager participation of Canadians.
One Million Acts of Green is a simple challenge where, by taking one simple, green step at a time, people can track their progress in reducing their collective carbon footprint. To sign up, go to http://green.cbc.ca/, register and choose from the many suggestions of easy to achieve green acts. These acts need to be something new that you have just started or plan to start soon. Make sure that you become a member of the "Trent University" group so that your efforts are tracked as part of the campus-wide contribution.
