Trent Alumnus Don Tapscott Releases Book Macrowikinomics as a Paperback and Animated Short Video

The latest work by social media guru and Trent University alumnus, Don Tapscott, has just been released in a revised paperback format. Macrowikinomics: Rebooting Business and the World, explores the importance of collaborative innovation, not only the in way we that we work, but in how we live, learn, create, govern, and care for one another. At the same time, Tapscott and his team have launched a brand new animated short that details both the limitations of current institutions and the successes of collaborative communities.

Co-written with Anthony D. Williams, Macrowikinomics is a follow-up to the wildly successful Wikinomics: How Mass Collaboration Changes Everything.

The book has received rave reviews in the media.  It has also received exceptional praise from both academics and leaders in the business and industrial sectors.

The Huffington Post calls it “nothing less than a game plan to fix a broken world,” while The Economist describes it as “a Schumpeterian story of creative destruction.”

Google chairman, Eric Schmidt, is among the many business leaders lauding the book: “Macrowikinomics inspires by chronicling path breaking developments and pointing the way forward for all of us."

The new animated piece on Macrowikinomics has just been released on YouTube.

“This is my first attempt at an animation,” admitted Mr. Tapscott. “It's a lot of work but I think it turned out pretty powerful.”

He has high expectations for the video. “That good liberal arts background from Trent is serving me well on something like this.  If you agree please share with your networks.  Goal 1 million viewers by the end of June,” he said.

Mr. Tapscott is no stranger to media – both traditional and new. He recently hosted ReCivilization, a five-part CBC Radio series that examined some of the biggest challenges facing our world today. It charted a path to the future, enabled by revolutions underway in communications, innovation and learning in the post-industrial, digital age. He will also be the opening speaker for TEDGlobal 2012, taking place in Edinburgh, Scotland, this coming June.

As one of the world's leading authorities on innovation, media, and the economic and social impact of technology, Mr. Tapscott’s reach is indeed impressive. His consulting firm, the Tapscott Group, advises business and government leaders from around the world. In 2011, he was named one of the world's most influential management thinkers by Thinkers50. He has authored or co-authored 14 widely read books, including the 1992 best seller Paradigm Shift. Wikinomics was the best selling management book of 2007 and was translated into over 25 languages.

An alumnus of Trent, Mr. Tapscott graduated in 1966 with a B.A. in Psychology and Statistics. He went on to gain an M.Ed from the University of Alberta, as well as honorary doctorates from Trent, University of Alberta, and McMaster.

He is chairman of the business strategy think tank nGenera Insight, which he founded in 1993. He is also a member of World Economic Forum and adjunct professor of Management at the Joseph L. Rotman School of Management at University of Toronto.
