Varsity Athletes Recognized for Achieving Academic Excellence

61 Academic All-Canadians at Trent Honou Trent University recognized 61 student athletes as 2010 Academic All-Canadians (AAC) at a special ceremony held in the new Trent Community Sport & Recreation Centre on February 2, 2011.

The annual awards event, which is hosted by Trent’s Department of Athletics and Recreation, honours students who participate in varsity sports and achieve an academic average of 80 per cent or higher.

“We are very proud of our student athlete experience at Trent,” said Bill Byrick, director of Athletics. “We continue to emphasize the importance of excellence in both academic and athletics and this year’s results are a good indication of our success. Being a scholar athlete is difficult as students must balance the academic demands with the intensity of a varsity practice and game schedule and often a part time job. These students are efficient time managers and our future community leaders."

Trent has 315 varsity athletes and 17 varsity teams that compete within the Canadian Inter-university Sport Organization, Ontario University Athletics and the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association.

A complete list of Trent University’s 2010 Academic All-Canadians can be found on the Trent University Athletics website.
